DeBabelizer is an essential tool for optimizing graphics for the World Wide Web. With DeBabelizer, you can automatically remap any number of images or animation files to one common color palette via Equilibrium’s proprietary SuperPalette™ technology. This provides faster display of graphics without any palette shifting regardless of whether you are displaying them through a Mac or Windows-based platform.
Equilibrium now provides four easy-to-use scripts called ProScripts™ to import into the DeBabelizer Toolbox application for preparing and saving your graphics in the most popular formats for the Web. Simply follow the instructions for editing certain functions within each Script to indicate your desired batch list (images to be processed) and the appropriate destination folder (where to save your DeBabelized images). Below is an outline of each Script, including the DeBabelizer menu functions used within that Script and a brief description of each of those functions. The last section gives you step by step instructions on how to set up the scripts for your personal use.
Here are your pre-made DeBabelizer Scripts
Please note: any (*) denotes that the user must edit that line in the script (via 'Scripts:Edit:<scriptname>', double clicking that line and specifying the appropriate Input (Batch List) and Output (Save to) destination) before executing that Script. This will be further explained in the "How to Use ProScripts" section below.
1) WebSaveToTNail - This script will scale your original images down to within 120x120 pixels (maximum) maintaining your original images' proportions and then save them out as non-interlaced GIF files. This script contains the following DeBabelizer menu functions:
a) Preferences:Readers...QuickTime Movie
Automatically opens all frames of a QuickTime movie, if applicable.
b) Batch:SuperPalette (*)
Polls all of your images in the Batch List and creates an optimized palette.
c) New...
Opens a dummy file with the "Windows Paintbrush 256" palette.
d) Merge Palettes
Will merge the optimized 'SuperPalette' with the 'Windows PB 256' palette.
e) Palette:Stash
Stashes the now Windows-compatible palette into DeBabelizer's memory.
f) Batch:Save (*)
Will now call another script ('WebScaleTo120x120-SubScript') to create the 120x120 (maximum) thumbnails, maintaining the original's proportions, and remap them to the Stashed palette.
WebScaleTo120x120-SubScript
a) Scale:Specify
Scales the image down to fit within 120x120 pixels, while maintaining the original's proportions.
b) Set Palette & Remap Pixels
Remaps the original images to the Stashed Palette (which should now be the optimized Windows-compatible palette).
2. WebSaveToGIF - This script will automatically save out all of your originals (specified in the Batch List) to the interlaced GIF format.
Will now call another script ('WebSetToWinPal-SubScript') to remap your images to the Stashed palette.
WebSetToWinPal-SubScript
a) Set Palette & Remap Pixels
Remaps the original images to the Stashed Palette (which should now be the optimized Windows-compatible palette).
3. WebSaveToJPEG - This script will automatically save out all of your originals (specified in the Batch List) to the standard JPEG format. This script contains the following DeBabelizer menu functions:
a) Preferences:Readers...QuickTime Movie
Automatically opens all frames of a QuickTime movie, if applicable.
b) Preferences:Writers...JPEG,JFIF
Pre-sets the compression quality settings to standard (75%). Note: if you wish to save out to the Progressive JPEG format, you need to edit this line in the script and turn on the "Progressive JPEG" checkbox.
c) Batch:Save (*)
Will save out all of your images (as specified in the Batch List) to the JPEG format.
4. WebSaveToAll - This script will perform all of the above. It will save out your images (as specified in the Batch List) as non-interlaced ThumbNail GIFs, interlaced GIFs, and also JPEGs.
Note: if you wish to save out to the Progressive JPEG format, you need to edit this line in the script and turn on the "Progressive JPEG" checkbox.
c) Batch:SuperPalette (*)
Polls all of your images in the Batch List and creates an optimized palette.
d) New...
Opens a dummy file with the "Windows Paintbrush 256" palette.
e) Merge Palettes
Will merge the optimized 'SuperPalette' with the 'Windows PB 256' palette.
f) Palette:Stash
Stashes the now Windows-compatible palette into DeBabelizer's memory.
g) Batch:Save (*)
Will now call another script ('WebSaveToAll-part2') to create the non-interlaced GIF thumbnails, interlaced GIFs, and JPEG files.
WebSaveToAll-part2
a) Set Palette & Remap Pixels
Remaps the image to the Stashed Palette (which should now be the optimized Windows-compatible palette).
b) Save As (*)
Saves the image out as an interlaced GIF file to the specified destination folder.
c) Scale:Specify
Scales the image down to fit within 120x120 pixels, while maintaining the original's proportions.
d) Set Palette & Remap Pixels
Remaps the image to the Stashed Palette (which should now be the optimized Windows-compatible palette). It's necessary to do this again, because the scaling automatically does it's own palette remapping to best suit the new scaled image.
e) Save As (*)
Saves the image out as a non-interlaced GIF file to the specified destination folder.
f) Revert To Original
Reverts the file back to its original form, so that it can be passed back to the 'Batch:Save' function (where it will be saved out as a JPEG file).

How to Use ProScripts:
First, you must import the Scripts into DeBabelizer (remember that these Scripts will work only with DeBabelizer Toolbox v1.6.5 or later). If you are a first time DeBabelizer user, install the DeBabelizer application to your hard drive and launch it. Go to the 'Misc' menu, choose the 'Scripts-Palettes-Etc' function and locate the ProScripts folder inside your DeBabelizer folder. Open the folder and 'Import' the Scripts into DeBabelizer.
Now go to the 'Scripts' menu; choose 'Edit' and click on one of the scripts (all of which are now listed there). You will get an 'Edit Script' dialog box containing DeBabelizer menu functions that define the chosen Script. (Important note: Do not edit any of the '...-SubScript' scripts, as these have already been pre-set for you!)
If there is a 'Batch SuperPalette' function within the Script, you need to double click it in order to set up your own Input information:
• When the 'Batch SuperPalette' dialog box appears, you need to create a batch list containing the images or folder of images that are to be saved with a common palette. You do this by clicking the 'New' button located in the upper left corner of the dialog box, locate your images, and 'Append' the appropriate images into the Batch List. Once your Batch List is created, name it and click 'Save' to save this batch list.
• Click 'Do It'.
If there is a 'Batch Save' function within the Script, you need to double click it in order to set up your Input and Output information:
• When the 'Batch Save' dialog box appears, you need to access the same batch list as the one you created for the 'Batch SuperPalette' function (see above). Select that batch list from the Batch List pop-up menu. If it has not already been created, then follow the steps above to create one (see 'Batch SuperPalette').
• Now look for the 'To:Set' button and click that 'Set' button to select your Output (destination) folder (Note: you can create a new folder within this menu).
• Click 'Do It' (Click 'OK' for any Warning dialog boxes that may appear).
If there are any 'Save As' functions within the Script, you need to double click them in order to set up your Output (destination) information:
• When the 'Save As' dialog box appears, simply choose your destination folder (you should probably select the same folder that you set up in the 'Batch Save' dialog box (see above) in order to keep all of your output files together).
• Click the 'Save' button.
After completing the above steps and returning to the 'Edit Script' dialog box, click the 'Save' button and replace the old script with this updated version. (If your batch list changes, you can edit these or any other scripts in this same manner, renaming and saving them into DeBabelizer's scripts list).
You are now ready to process! Go back to the 'Scripts' menu, choose 'Execute' and execute that script!
Congratulations! You are now DeBabelizing!
